Brugnera to discover

Where: brugnera
(Brugnera)
Genre: culture

Close to the western border of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the province of Pordenone, in an entirely flat area, crossed by the placid river Livenza, lies Brugnera. Center with a strong productive vocation, it has its roots in the Middle Ages with the construction of a military garrison, right next to the Livenza. Historically linked to the fate of the republic of Venice, Brugnera preserves numerous prestigious historic buildings. The shiniest jewel is certainly represented by Villa Varda, built in the fifteenth century by the noble Mazzoleni family, was later enlarged in 1860 and after being passed over by multiple owners, assumed its current appearance under the Morpurgo family in the mid-nineteenth century. The villa preserves the original frescoes and boasts a spectacular park of 18 hectares, which can be used by the citizens for walks and outdoor sports. The park hosts various nature trails, an English garden, a seventeenth-century chapel with an adjoining funeral mausoleum and an ancient cellar, which has now become a multifunctional center. The villa is currently undergoing careful and accurate restoration and can only be visited on the occasion of particular events. The territory of Brugnera is historically rich and industrious, characterized by its specific production: the art of furniture.
