A trip to the widespread museum of Fiumara d'Arte: what to admire in Castel di Lucio

Where: castel-di-lucio
(Castel di Lucio)
Genre: culture   fun

Castel di Lucio is a small village in the province of Messina located between the Nebrodi and the Madonie mountains, in the Halaesa valley. The Castle, dating back to the thirteenth century, dominates the town, offering spectacular scenery and views. The town is part of the network of Authentic Italian Villages, an association that unites small and medium-sized municipalities, enhancing their territory and pushing the development of tourism. What attracts visitors to this village is its belonging to the Fiumara d'Arte, which is a widespread open-air museum that houses various works of contemporary art along the banks of the Tusa river. The museum is the largest in Europe and was created at the behest of Antonio Presti. The works that can be admired in Castel di Lucio are: - 'A curve thrown behind time', a monolith made of concrete and iron with a shape of a sail beaten by the wind. It is located at the point where the old road of the town joins the new one - 'The labyrinth of Ariadne', linked to motherhood. It is a labyrinth of concentric circles that invites the visitor and walk through it to arrive at the center, where fertilization takes place - 'Arethusa', that is the abstract colored decoration of the Carabinieri station. A way to make a place that is usually austere, more alive.
