A short but intense trip to the village of Chamois where cars are not allowed

Where: chamois
(Chamois)
Genre: nature   fun

Chamois, in the Aosta Valley, is the only Italian town that cannot be reached by motor vehicles. The 'car-free village' is located at 1800 meters above sea level, and can be reached by cable car, by bike or by small plane. Due to this characteristic it has been included in the consortium of the Pearls of the Alps. The absence of motor vehicles makes the village sustainable and attentive to nature, a place where tourism is mainly respect for the surrounding environment. Visitors are mainly attracted by winter activities, in fact there are about 14 kilometers of slopes that in summer become the ideal territory for wonderful walks in nature. Among the most evocative places, equipped for picnics, there is Lake Lod, of Alpine origin, surrounded by a wood. The village has less than a hundred residents and also fascinates for its typical houses in wood and stone. Among the buildings of interest we remember the parish church dedicated to San Pantaleone and the sanctuary of San Domenico Savio.
