The wonderful Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta in Lainate

Where: lainate
(Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta)
Genre: culture

Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta is located in Lainate in the province of Milan. It was built by Count Pirro I Visconti Borromeo towards the end of 1500 and decorated by the best artists of the time with frescoes, statues and water games. Room of particular beauty is the Rotonda del Mercurio with its vault frescoed by Camillo Procaccini in which the god Mercury is represented. The successors of the Visconti Borromeo were the Littas who, around 1700, continued the work of embellishing the villa such as the ceiling of the Atrium of the Four Winds inside the Nymphaeum frescoed by the artist Giuseppe Levati. In this area of the villa, numerous statues of exquisite workmanship were also sculpted and fun water games were installed with which jokes were made. The Galatea Fountain built in the middle of the garden is also splendid. In the latter there are several botanical species among which a Ginkgo Biloba Male of almost 200 years stands out. In the garden there are also the Fountain of Neptune and the greenhouses. Very impressive is the Salone delle Feste where famous musicians such as Johann Christian Bach performed.
