(Frosolone)
Genre: culture   folklore   useful information

Frosolone is an Italian town of about 2800 inhabitants in the province of Isernia, in Molise, and is very famous for the artisan production of knives and scissors. It is located at 894 meters in the Molise mountains, its particular name has been mentioned in many films, such as 'Il Merlo Maschio'. The village began to be populated in medieval times and this is confirmed by the appearance of some of its attractions: Three arched doors of Sant'Angelo, Santa Maria, San Pietro and the Baronial Palace, which in ancient times indicated the entrance inside the country. In the Middle Ages, the Baronial Palace was a castle inhabited by the feudal lords of Frosolone; despite the numerous restorations, the stone structure has been maintained. In the 1500s some embellishments were added which consist of four arches and a loggia. Other places of interest are the Cutler's Workshop and the Museo dei Ferri Taglienti, where it is possible to admire the professional metalworking and the conservation of artifacts and tools used in craftsmanship. There are several wonderful churches, such as Santa Maria Assunta with its bell tower enriched with paintings, and San Michele Arcangelo, dating back to 1200. Also San Pietro, originally used as a prison, and Santa Maria delle Grazie a little further away from the historic center.
