The Coves of Favignana

Favignana is an island belonging to the Egadi archipelago, in Sicily. The island is located 7 km from Trapani from which it takes the province; the name Favignana derives from the Latin favonius, a term with which the Romans indicated the hot wind coming from the west. The island of Favignana is the largest of the Egadi archipelago but not so large that it cannot be traveled by bicycle. In fact, on the site it is possible to rent bicycles, mopeds and anything else that can allow tourists to visit the beautiful island. Favignana is known, above all for its breathtaking coves. Cala Rossa is the most famous; the name derives from a violent battle between Romans and Carthaginians which took place in 241 BC. C. which dyed the crystalline waters red. Cala Azzurra is one of the best known sandy beaches, characterized by crystal clear and particularly refreshing water, with a white and pink seabed. Cala Bue Marino, a small cove characterized by the tuff quarry cave. In Favignana it is possible to taste different delicacies in different places. One of the most famous places is the Lido Burrone where it is possible to have delicious aperitifs looking at the sea. The only way to reach the island is by sea, starting from the port of Trapani with ferries or hydrofoils.
