The Cathedral of Monreale and the other beauties of the place

Where: monreale
(Monreale)
Genre: culture   fun   useful information

Known for the Duomo and its ceramics, Monreale is a town in the province of Palermo that offers ideas for an interesting trip. From the municipal villa, called Villa del Belvedere, it is possible to admire in a single glance a breathtaking view of Palermo and the Conca d'Oro. But a more careful visit is to be dedicated to the Cathedral which is located in the historic center and is an example of Norman architecture known throughout the world. Not only architecture but also mosaic art and the very fine decoration of the cloister columns. In the Cathedral the chapels of San Castrense, San Benedetto and the Santissimo Crocifisso are also admirable. Since 2015 the building is part of the UNESCO heritage sites. Among the civil architectures worthy of a visit we list: the monumental cemetery, the Royal Palace (now the seat of the municipality and the seminary), Palazzo Cutò, and the monumental fountains scattered around the city. Local craftsmanship is fervent and stands out mainly in activities such as the processing of ceramics, mosaics, embroidery and wicker.
