We are located in Ortona, a city in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo. Its roots are very ancient and date back to the Frentani people, who used the commercial port as the main source of the territory. It was a Roman city from the beginning of the third century BC. C. up to the fifth. Later occupied by the Goths and the Byzantines, by the Lombards and finally by the Normans who set fire to it. Resources in the Swabian era. In the religious field, it became important from 1258 when the relics of St. Thomas the Apostle were transferred there, kept in the cathedral. During the 19th century it was known above all for Gabriele D'Annunzio. The city is divided into two districts, Terravecchia and Terranova, where there are the walls, the Cathedral, the Aragonese Castle from 1452, and the Farnese palace from the 1500s. The Aragonese Castle was built over the old Caldora structure of 1300. It is characterized by four cylindrical towers. The interior is accessible from a small garden that runs along its walls, unfortunately bare due to the war, however, it has preserved furnishings and pieces dating back to the 1700s.
