Casalvieri

Where: casalvieri
(Casalvieri)
Genre: culture

To the south-west of the Comino Valley, on the right bank of the Melfa river, in the province of Frosinone, rises Casalvieri, the buttresses of the Apennines and uncontaminated nature surround the town. In the center of Casalvieri we find the collegiate church of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, with a baroque facade, an eighteenth-century building designed by Giacomo Del Sole; the interior has three naves, the high altar is decorated in pure gold and houses the remains of the patron saint of the town Sant'Onorio; on the sides the altars of the noble families and the walls decorated with frescoes by Cavalier D'Arpino and paintings of the eighteenth century. During the Second World War due to its position close to the Gustav Line, the town was involved in the battles of Montecassino. The town has two hamlets Roselli and Casalvieri and numerous districts; the church of Santa Maria delle Rose in Roselli dates back to the seventeenth century, on the facade we find one of the few examples of diamond-point ashlar, a particular type of plaster. The economy of the country is based on the balloon industries, here we find the first in Europe for production. Restaurants with wonderful views offer exquisite dishes prepared with care and dedication.
