The wonderful landscapes and paths of Valtellina

Among the most famous destinations of mountain tourism, Valtellina stands out in the Lombard Alps. The entertainment offered here is characterized by pure air, relaxation and hospitality. Such experiences are deserving almost all year round, not just in winter. The Alps in these lands are carved out by the Adda river, generating green pastures, lakes and towering and very attractive rock faces. The trekking routes are therefore one of the most enveloping experiences that can be done in these places. This is not surprising, as Valtellina is home to the Lombard section of the Stelvio National Park. In Val Viola Bormina you can admire the spruce and larch forests, where the pastures and paths are dotted with wonderful lakes, clear as pearls. The “Monte della Croce” path is a fascinating path of great historical value, as it runs along the ancient Cadorna Line (and therefore belonging to an Italian defensive sector during the First World War); here remain the vestiges of the ancient defenses. Thematically related, there is the famous Fort of Oga, which can be visited as it has been adapted as a museum center. In the wake of religious itineraries, in Valtellina we find the Cammino Mariano delle Alpi, a 160 km route divided into eight stages ending at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano. The villages are worth a visit, if only for their peculiar architecture; a recurring motif in the houses is in fact the sloping roof, while the balconies will always be full of colorful flowers. We recommend trips to Livigno, Santa Caterina Valfurva (hamlet of Valfurva) and Bormio. In the latter town we can also find magnificent spa complexes. A nice place to culminate your trip in Valtellina is the Stelvio Pass, one of the most beautiful mountain views in the world; the road itself that leads to the pass is considered one of the most fascinating of all, whether it is traveled by car or by bike.
