Comiso was born in the province of Ragusa, on the slopes of the Iblei mountains. The town developed in ancient times around the Diana source, thermal waters that today are in the center of the city, and also represent a Roman archaeological site, in front of the source is the municipal palace, from the nineteenth century, majestic and elegant. Piazza Fonte Diana is still the city center today, with the main shops and buildings of interest, as well as the statue of the goddess. The period spent under the Naselli dynasty is important for the city. Comiso came from a period of crisis and the family gave it new splendor. Testimony remain the major churches and the castle of the Naselli d'Aragona, the Church of Maria Santissima Annunziata, the Mother Church of Santa Maria delle Stelle. The town is also famous for the Pietra di Comiso, a straw-colored mineral similar to marble, extracted from the city's quarries. It is used as a building material, not only in Comiso, in fact it is also present in the famous cathedral of Noto. The city of Comiso also hosts events related to tradition: in the hamlet of Pedalino, in September, an important grape harvest festival takes place that traces the ancient method of processing grapes starting from the ancient peasant customs, up to the pressing with feet to finish with a banquet of typical products such as cheese, oil, homemade pasta, tomato, broad beans and sardines. Comiso also hosts a small airport, the second in the eastern part of the island.
