The traditions of Buseto Palizzolo

Where: buseto-palizzolo
(Buseto Palizzolo)
Genre: folklore

Buseto Palizzolo is a small town in the province of Trapani. The town gained independence from Erice in 1950 and has a territory rich in open spaces and natural beauty. It takes its name from the word Basita which means extension of land and from the baronial family of Norman origins of the Palizzolo. The heart of the city is the town hall with its beautiful garden. In Buseto in conjunction with Holy Week, an exhibition-market of its typical products is organized. Of great value are the Erice rugs made by local artisans with techniques that refer to the traditions of North Africa and the East. Dairy products and wines are also very popular, not to mention bread. To visit, inside an ancient baglio, is the Museum of Local Civilization which contains numerous tools and implements of the peasant tradition. An obligatory stop is also the Mother Church dedicated to Maria Santissima del Carmelo in which there is a beautiful painting of the Madonna of Custonaci, a splendid statue of the Madonna del Carmelo and an equally beautiful Pietà. Very impressive is also the Via Crucis which is held every year on Palm Sunday.
