Anguillara Sabazia, a few steps from Rome

Where: anguillara-sabazia
(Anguillara Sabazia )
Genre: culture   folklore   useful information

We are located a few steps from Rome, in a small jewel located on a promontory near Lake Bracciano, more precisely in Anguillara Sabazia, a medieval village, whose name derives from an ancient Roman villa, Angularia, built where the costa forms a right angle. The town was a fiefdom, in the Middle Ages, of the Anguillara family, until 1448. The Castle, symbol of the city's wealth, was then owned by Orsini d'Aragona, until the end of 1600 when the entire city was ceded to the noble Odescalchi family to pay off all debts. Its history has been fragmented since the end of the 1700s. The city, in the last decades of our century, is certainly a destination for tourists, both in summer and in winter. The Collegiata, the main church, overlooks the historic center, overlooking the most suggestive panoramic point, right on the lake. In the lower part of the village is the church of San Biagio, from 1500, patron saint of the city. A medieval village to be discovered, but also suitable for long walks around the lake.
