In Poggibonsi archaeological excavations have brought to light a settlement dating back to the IX-X century on the hill. A total of 17 buildings were found, where a main structure was evident, the one inhabited by the dominant family, around which the other productive structures revolved. The University of Siena, in collaboration with other realities and associations in the area, has decided to revive that distant past by building the Archeodrome. The intention is to rebuild the entire village. For now there are two buildings erected, the first of which was inaugurated in 2014. At the Archeodrome you can do experiential archeology, that is to say that you can relive that distant time knowing its arts and crafts, habits and lifestyles. There are people who show what was done in those days: sewing, leatherworking, fighting, cooking on stone. The project also includes the planting of 15 olive trees and 9 fruit trees using seeds found during excavations and preserved in the Banca del Genome in the province of Siena.
