Ronciglione, its historic village and its churches

Where: ronciglione
(Ronciglione)
Genre: culture

Ronciglione is a small medieval village, embraced by an urban layout dating back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. To enter the historic center, cross the ancient gate, flanked by two slender bell towers. The other bell tower that dominates the town with its presence is that of the church of Sant'Andrea. As often happens in these historic villages, the most numerous and notable buildings are the churches. The Duomo stands out above all, with its clear dome that contrasts with the gray walls. The construction of the Cathedral lasted several years, begun in 1629 by the Farnese and then continued in the following decades, when the economic support of the powerful family failed. The dome has a peculiar appearance as it was entirely covered in lead in 1685, in order to protect it from freezing. Other churches of historical and artistic interest in Ronciglione are the Church of Santa Maria della Provvidenza, inside which you can admire frescoes from the fifteenth century, and the Church of Peace, which owes its name to the presence of an icon of Santa Maria della Pace .
