The village located in the northern part of the Municipality of Enna, is renowned for the fortress carved into the tuff, similar only to some sanctuaries located in Cappadocia. The Castle was excavated about 2000 years BC. C. from king Morgete Siculo who called his court Galaria. In 858 d. C. the castellani participated in the battle against the Arab invasion. The fight raged for two months, after which the castle fell. Galaria experienced decline until the arrival of the Normans who made it their barony. Historians of the time record that 12 moats, cisterns, 17 caverns and 30 chambers were built around the fortification. In addition, ventilation and lighting were guaranteed by an underground room, still visible today, of 22 m. Going up to the fortress you can visit the 14th century Church of San Cataldo with a gabled façade, equipped with two columns and a niche containing the statue of the Saint. The interior of the Church is rich in paintings from the Sicilian workshop, dated from the 15th to the 19th century and protected by the wooden coffered ceiling. Behind the church is the Porta Falsa which opens the passage to the access passage to the fortress. Squeezed between the cliffs, narrow to invaders, upon entering you can visit some rooms, the ruins of the walls and the four openings to the basement. The town is also known for its manufacturing excellence, such as fine fabrics and prickly pear liqueur, exported to the USA.
