The historical beauties of Arezzo

Where: arezzo
(Arezzo)
Genre: culture

Arezzo is one of the most picturesque cities in Tuscany. Here you can breathe history in every corner and there are numerous places that are worth a visit. Among these there is certainly the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Donato built between the end of 1200 and the beginning of 1500. It represents one of the most important examples of Gothic style in Italy. The heart of the city is Piazza Grande also known as Piazza Vasari from the name of the architect who designed it. Interesting buildings from different eras overlook it. To the north we find a beautiful 16th century building with a loggia also made by Vasari. On the south and east sides there are medieval structures such as the splendid Torre dei Lappoli while on the west there are the Palazzo della Fraternità dei Laici dating back to 1400 and the Pieve di Santa Maria with its Romanesque style. Not far from the square stands the Basilica of San Francesco inside which you can admire the cycle of frescoes by Piero della Francesca and the crucifix by Cimabue. The city is also famous because some scenes of the film La Vita è Bella were shot there.
