Sensory experiences

Opened in 2001, the garden, set as an amphitheater around the water lily lake, is set up in the 12 hectares of land sloping down from the grassy level of the Castle. Divided into four thematic areas, it has won the sixth place for beauty among European gardens. In the 100 m of altitude difference it is possible to visit the areas of the garden of the sun, with Mediterranean plants, of the Italian garden, with the romantic boxwood labyrinth, of the aquatic garden, with lagoon and lake plants, of the sensory garden, where you can immerse yourself in the scents and clear waters. Strolling in the garden you will be enveloped by the thousand colors of tulips, by the scents of jasmine, by the velvety corollas of roses, by the thorny sculptures of succulent plants. Temporary exhibits, such as wood or bronze sculptures, are set up along the colorful paths with seasonal blooms. In the castle, which was the winter residence of Queen of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria, known as Sissi, it is possible to visit the tourism museum of Merano, which tells the relationship between visitors and local inhabitants from 1700 to the present day.
