The splendid Valderice

Where: valderice
(Valderice)
Genre: culture

Valderice is a charming town of 12,000 inhabitants in the province of Trapani. Its name derives from the fact that it is located at the foot of Mount Erice. Very suggestive are the views that this village offers, ranging from the sea to the hills. Among the most important monuments we find the Arco del Cavaliere where the painting of the Madonna of Custonaci was once placed. Those who want to take a relaxing walk in contact with nature can instead go to the Urban Park of Misericordia. Here, during the Christmas period, a living nativity scene called 'The Bible in the Park' is set up. A few steps from this green area is the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Misericordia dating back to around 1600. Inside you can admire some interesting frescoes. Another historical building of great value is the Molino Excelsior. In ancient times, this place was used to mill the wheat while now it is used to host conferences and tasting events. Picturesque is the Church of Maria Santissima della Purità located in the San Marco district. Also worth a visit is the Municipal Pinewood which houses a tennis court and the San Barnaba Theater. The latter was built inside a former quarry and hosts several important cultural events every year. Finally, the Tonnara di Bonagia used in past times for the processing of tuna and currently used as an accommodation facility is interesting.
