With the snow-capped peaks of the Alps framing the lake, the path winds its way through the narrow alleys and the bridge house over the Pessetta stream, in Colonno. Between the high walls of a narrow alley, the light of the snow disappears for a few seconds, reflecting itself on the waters of the lake and on the facade of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo. Walking through terraces and gardens you reach Sala Comacina, located in the inlet that faces the island of the same name. The calm waters that spread on the shore are called 'Zoca de l'oil' or smooth as oil and it is a place sheltered from the wind so that the sun transmits the heat expanded by the mirror and the snow. Here we admire Villa Rachele where Manzoni lived. The lake area winds even further up to Punta Balbianello, a promontory that shelters Ossuccio. Among gardens, balconies and green terraces, we admire the Balbianello villas, Casa Benna and Villa Tosatto, with their marvelous ornamental parks and decorated fountains. Having reached the last plateau of Griante, with the snow-capped Grigne in the background, we admire the villas that hosted illustrious personalities such as Villa Ricordi where Verdi composed the Traviata and the places that inspired the Charteuse de Parma in Stendhal.
