(Laghi di Ponteranica)
Genre: culture   nature

Path 161 starts from the Ca 'San Marco refuge at 1830m and reaches the Ponteranica lakes, in the Orobie Alps, at 2115m. The Refuge is ancient and dates back to 1593, when it was a watchtower on the border of the land possessions of the Republic of Venice. Reachable by car, park and take the easy and grassy road that makes its way through the flowery pastures. The difference in height is not demanding and gradually opens to the view the three peaks of Monte Ponteranica, Monte Valletto and Monte Triomen. The clouds run suspended between the high-altitude currents and fly over the grassy slope with their shadow. The first lake we meet is the southern one in the shape of a horseshoe and is surrounded by other lakes, very picturesque among the mountain ridges. The lakes are fed by rainwater and resurgent waters and are visible all year round. In this area you can find the defensive turrets of the Cadorna line and sculptures of serene faces, as peaceful as the hopes of our young soldiers.
