Where: bucciano
(Bucciano)
Genre: culture   nature

Bucciano is a small Campania town in the province of Benevento. It rises 276 meters above sea level and has 2,000 inhabitants. Bucciano is located in the Sannio area, an area rich in history, often unjustly forgotten; lately the local administration has focused heavily on the rediscovery of the traditions and the past of this small town. Bucciano has always had a privileged relationship with the mountains, as like all the towns in the district, it did not enjoy great opportunities and economic resources, at least until the 1950s and the only source of economic sustenance was represented by the hay harvest. and wood, which took place in the mountains. Precisely with this in mind, a powerful propaganda campaign was launched aimed at rediscovering the naturalistic paths of the mountain. However, Bucciano is not just nature. In fact, on Mount Taburno there is a lot of art. Starting with the splendid caves of San Mauro and San Simeone, probably used as ancient places of worship in the early Middle Ages, whose walls are beautifully embellished with frescoes and cave paintings. Absolute jewel is the monastery of the Madonna del Taburno, built on the slopes of the homonymous mountain in the 15th century, in Gothic style with remarkable vaults and interesting frescoes; seat of the Dominican friars until the mid-eighteenth century, then abandoned until it was reborn to new life in 2007; today an important destination for religious pilgrimages.
