In the Tuscan Val Tiberina, along the side of a cultivated hill, we visit Anghiari. Famous for the battle of 1440 against the Duchy of Milan which saw Florence victorious, the commemorative palio is celebrated every year. Leonardo da Vinci also celebrated the event by painting the battle, kept in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. City dedicated to its defense, the walls were reinforced with the Vicar's Bastion and other fortresses in 1553, fearing a new attack, this time, from the city of Siena. The lucky visitors can also walk the walls in the apical walkway, like the patrols of that time when, it was necessary to keep an eye on the accesses from the valley. Eternal rival of San Sepolcro, he arrogates as his own the road that dry and decisive connects to the rival by cutting the valley. A seventeenth-century poem tells that the Sansepolcresi dared to steal the key from the portaccia, the main access point. Well preserved and visible in all its depth is the well of the hamlet, from which, in the days of war with the city gates closed, it was possible to draw water. Walking through the streets and the stone houses and their flowers, you can visit the Town Hall or Palazzo Pretorio. Dating back to the 14th century, it is dotted with the coats of arms of the Podestà and Vicars who ruled the village and includes a chapel with 16th century frescoes and a room with a Roman-era wine tank. The flight of the drone shows us an almond-shaped urban structure, with the bell tower that affirms itself on the roofs of the buildings, reddening in the light of the sunset. For those who love cycling, every year in October, the local Dynamis association organizes the historical re-enactment of the Intrepida on historic bikes and crowned by three-day events in the village. Refreshment points with local delicacies are organized along each of the three routes studied, for both amateurs and professionals. The itineraries, of 42 km or 85 km or 120 km, for the truly intrepid, touch corners of Tuscan natural beauty and historic villages in an unforgettable holiday.
