At the foot of the Dolomites and behind the Prealps, the large territory of Borgo Valbelluna winds between hills and mountains, bathed by the course of the Piave river. The wonderful landscape of Valbelluna, geographically defined by the two main poles of Belluno and Feltre, is framed by the wide crown of the Belluno Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Borgo Valbelluna is a scattered Italian town of 13 421 inhabitants in the province of Belluno in Veneto. The municipality was born on January 30, 2019 following the merger of the former municipalities of Trichiana, Mel and Lentiai. This territory has been inhabited since the most ancient times: there are testimonies of the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age; of the latter we have the main testimonies, such as the Necropolis of Mel, of the seventh century BC. C; starting from the first century a. C. became part of the Roman Tenth Regio; in the following centuries the territory was occupied by Ostrogoths, Byzantines and Lombards, whose presence is testified by the suggestive Castle of Zumelle.
