Assisi is a town in the province of Perugia, known for being linked to the figure of San Francesco. The Benedictine monk, patron saint of Italy, lived and died in this place, together with another important religious figure, Santa Chiara. A place full of spirituality, it lends itself to an interesting visit. Among the places of interest we list: - the Basilica of Santa Chiara, in Gothic style, located in the historic center of the city, houses the crypt of the Saint and offers a panoramic view of the city; - on the opposite side to the church of Santa Chiara there is that of San Francesco, divided into two areas, it has kept the remains of the saint since 1230. Attached to the Basilica there is also the convent; - in the historic center it is also possible to visit the Cathedral of San Rufino, or the cathedral of the city, located in the homonymous square; - the Rocca Maggiore, is located on the top of the hill and has dominated the city for about 8 centuries. It is a fortification dating back to the early Middle Ages and offers a beautiful view over the entire town below; - Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, also known as the Temple of Minerva, is an ancient Roman temple transformed into a church in the 16th century. It is located in Piazza del Comune, and is flanked by the bell tower, called 'Torre del Popolo'; - Hermitage of the prisons, located on Mount Subasio, a place of great quiet used in the past and still today by the monks for their prayers, and also by San Francesco himself, - church of San Damiano, restored by San Francesco, who wrote here his 'Canticle of the Creatures'; - Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, known for the Porziuncola, or the chapel where St. Francis used to pray, and the characteristic thornless rose garden of the legend.
