Vietri sul Mare is the most populous and easternmost town on the Amalfi coast. It rises 80 meters above sea level and has 7,500 inhabitants; it is part of the province of Salerno. In addition to its crystal clear sea and its fresh fish, Vietri is very famous for the majolica and ceramics that literally cover the stairways and the facades of the houses in the very particular alleys of the center. Sculptures and majolica panels are practically scattered throughout Vietri, as well as the many shops available to tourists for a typical souvenir. Artistically, the main attraction is the church of San Giovanni Battista, in late Renaissance style, with an interior richly decorated with majolica and ceramics; the masterpiece, however, remains the entirely majolica external dome.
