The government of water from the time of Leonardo

Where: cornate-d-adda
(Cornate d'Adda)
Genre: culture   nature

The rapid sedimentation of gravel and pebbles, which occurred suddenly after the glaciation, formed the agglomeration in the Ceppi dell'Adda. This type of stone interested the Romans, who founded the town here, as building material. The prosperity of civilization was interrupted for two centuries with the Lombard domination and remained dormant until 1368, when the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Rocchetta was built, a beautiful building overlooking the rapids of the river. The area was later fortified as it found itself on the border between the Duchy of Milan and the Serenissima of Venice. Leonardo studied here how to use the power of water by designing a canal between the three strains of the Adda. He was also artistically inspired by portraying The Virgin of the Rocks against this background. There have been prodigious ideas to meet the growing electricity needs of Milan. Basins, steps and basins built until 1773 under the government of Maria Theresa of Austria, are monumental works that weave the history and inventions.
