Bettona: Etruscan Mtb competition

Where: bettona
(Bettona)
Genre: events    nature   fun   useful information

Every year the beloved competition for brave bikers takes place to the sound of drums, starting from the mother square of Bettona. If you love Mtb but want to ride a soft path, there is a non-competitive ring of 25 km and with 900 m of altitude difference. The area around the village, on the border with the Martani mountains, is wooded, the paths rise and fall through various types of natural environments, fording streams on small wooden bridges that are set up for the race. The adventure is enriched by a stay in an artistically attractive village. Of Roman foundation, the surrounding walls still defend the passage to the stone houses and the ancient churches. The churches of Santa Maria Maggiore and the parish church of Sant'Andrea, which contain Giotto's painting 'the Passion of Christ', date back to the 13th century. In the Church of San Cristolpo, built in 1226 in devotion to the martyr who was bishop of Bettona, the relics of the saint are contained. Together with the adjoining Convent it represents, with its vaulted interiors and arcaded courtyards, one of the most beautiful sacred buildings in the area.
