Varese, the green refuge

Varese is a Lombard provincial capital; it rises 382 meters above sea level and has about 83,000 inhabitants. Defined as a garden city and a city of gardens, it presents itself to the tourist as rich in green areas and parks filled with the most varied botanical varieties. Like all cities with a long history, Varese too can exhibit an interesting historic center, where the visitor cannot absolutely miss the narrow but highly decorated arch that takes its name from its builder: the canon Luigi Mera, from 1850. Another jewel is the square. of the podestà where the ancient praetorian palace, seat of the municipality for over three centuries, and historic residences belonging to the major noble families of Varese insist. Varese as we know it today, with its large parks, liberty villas, centuries-old trees, is the fruit and daughter of the period of the industrial revolution, when it became a green refuge for all those looking for clean air, a break from the stress of the chaotic cities industrial.
