Laghi is the smallest town in the province of Vicenza and in the entire Veneto region. It has just 125 inhabitants and rises to 550 meters above sea level. It looks like a handful of houses immersed in the green woods of the Pre-Alps, gathered around the square and dominated by the imposing mass of the church of Santa Barnaba. We are located in the north-western part of Veneto, in the Val di Ferro. The ash and beech woods have remained unchanged over the centuries, hosting a rich wild fauna including bears and wolves. The territory around Laghi is a large basin crossed by many rivers that form, at the entrance to the town, the two twin lakes from which it takes its name. The municipal territory is very large despite the few inhabitants and includes 15 villages, many of which are uninhabited. The origins are uncertain, but the most accredited hypothesis speaks of a settlement of Germanic peoples. In the feudal age it passed from one noble family to another until it ended up under the dominion of the Serenissima. Then it undergoes the Napoleonic invasions. During the First World War the territory was completely destroyed and the population forced to displace. The economy is based on agriculture, livestock, crafts. For a certain historical period there were smuggling activities with neighboring Austria.
