One day in Santopadre

Where: santopadre
(Santopadre)
Genre: culture   fun   folklore

On the promontory that dominates the town we visit the oldest testimony, the Lombard Tower. Rebuilt and modified in various periods up to 1400, from the Tower you can admire the view of the Aurunci Mountains with the Val Sorano and the Mainarde with the Val Comeno. The Apennines intersect their crests all around the sight and guard of the Torrione. Going down under small arches and between the stone houses, a square opens up. In the churchyard stands the Church of San Folco Pellegrino which dates back to 1400. The Saint was a pilgrim from Canterbury who stopped in Santopadre on his way back from the Holy Land. He is depicted with the shells and the Pilgrim's saddlebag and holds a piece of cloth in his belt, an instrument for treating the plague victims. The town was in fact struck by the plague in 400 AD. C. when he too died. Inside, three altars tell the story of faith, hope and charity. Another important work is the canvas with the Last Supper and the Resurrection by Cavalier d'Arpino who was Caravaggio's teacher. Many events and celebrations involve the youth and visitors.
