Visit Lentella

Where: lentella
(Lentella)
Genre: culture   nature   fun

Lentella is a small village in Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti, nestled on a hill at an altitude of 400 meters; it is part of the Medio Vasto mountain community in the lower Abruzzo region. From the hill where it rises, on the border with Molise, it overlooks the entire surrounding valley and the gaze reaches as far as the Adriatic Sea. Its name derives from the lentil, a legume also depicted in the municipal coat of arms, or from the name of a noble Roman woman: Lentula, who would have stayed here. It seems credible that the first settlement has pre-Roman origins. Lentella rises at the confluence of two rivers: the Trigno and the Treste; easily reachable due to its strategic geographical position, Lentella is also remembered for a tragic event that occurred in 1950, during the reverse strikes, two men were unfortunately killed by the police. Despite its small size, the village boasts a lively economy, certainly founded on agriculture but also open to industrial development. There are also many associations in the area that guarantee good cultural dynamism. Olive groves, vineyards and cereal fields drive this economy, flanked by a very famous paragliding school and an educational farm. Recently, an interesting project on renewable energy and photovoltaics has taken place that will affect public lighting, for example. Two churches are worth visiting: Santa Maria Assunta, from the 14th century, with a fine quadrangular stone bell tower, and that of Santi Cosma and Damiano, patrons of the town, from the 18th century.
