Corinaldo is a village in the Marche region, in the province of Ancona; located at 203 meters above sea level, it has 5,2000 inhabitants. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, surrounded by an intact circle of walls 900 meters long, dating back to the 15th century, equipped with towers and bastions. The most famous gate is that of Santa Maria del Mercato, in fact it was a defensive system of two gates, one protecting the other. The flayer's walls had the function of further defending the aforementioned gate. Via La Piaggia is the beating heart of the village, where the polenta well is located, it is said that a sack of polenta accidentally fell into it, built by the tyrant Corinaldo Antonello brawler to supply the nearby houses, in the fifteenth century. The house of Scuretto, a shoemaker who loves drinking, is curious. His son, who had emigrated, sent him money on time to build a house where he would retire in old age, but his father spent it in taverns. One day at the request of the son for a photo of the house, he had a wall-facade built and I sent photos of that, the house obviously did not exist. The staircase of 100 steps is interesting, even if in fact there are 95. Santa Maria Goretti was born here, to whom a church dating back to 1700 is dedicated which preserves her relics. At the age of 12 she was the victim of an attempted rape, was shot to death and passed away; before dying she forgave the boy who attacked her. She was first canonized and in 1950 she was made a saint. Noteworthy are the churches of Madonna Addolorata and San Francesco, XIII century, incomplete façade, but the largest in the village. The upper gate, porta nova, the flayer's tower and the landroni arcade, obtained from the elevation of the stately buildings of the rich of the 700s, are absolutely worth visiting.
