Apice is a town of about 5500 inhabitants in the province of Benevento, in Campania. It is located in the hills of Benevento, not many kilometers from Naples. It was called a 'ghost town' and its clock is said to have stood still in the 1960s, as it crystallized over time. It can be seen from its architectural features, such as in the houses, in the town hall, in the school or in the more banal shop signs. It is considered by many to be a modern Pompeii, because it was abandoned after the earthquakes of 1962 and 1980, which led the population to move to other places. The reconstruction of the village began in 2016 near the Norman Castle and in its upper part. During the Christmas period it was opened for the Christmas markets, in the area of the Castle there are several small shops. Instead, in the part closed until that moment, the reopening was granted for the representation of the living nativity scene, a famous tradition almost in villages throughout Italy. Walking through its streets is a unique emotion, because you have the opportunity to instantly take a dip in the past.
