Sardinia: Let's discover Orosei

Where: orosei
(Orosei)
Genre: culture   folklore   useful information

Sardinia is among the most loved regions of Italians and not only for their holidays, but even if famous for its beautiful beaches it has much more to offer to visitors. Orosei, for example, is a town that deserves to be visited, has just over 7,000,000 inhabitants, and still retains the historical traces of its past. It was founded around the second century, centuries later it became the most important seat of the Giudicato of Gallura. The heart of the historic center, Piazza del Popolo, is perfectly suited as a starting point for walking and discovering Orosei. All the alleys of the place are scattered with small churches, because historically the religious and spiritual aspect has been a historical constant of the town. Particularity to be grasped during the journey is the presence on some old houses of engravings or faces and crosses, used in ancient times to protect from negative energies and still visible today. Continuing the walk to the center you arrive in the ancient district of 'Palathos Vezzos', or 'old palaces', the name derives from the fact that in 1500 in this area various noble palaces were born that stood out in height on the small houses of the people as they were often on several floors. Orosei offers visitors all its history and a splendid stay for a different and culturally rich holiday.
