Lucca is an Italian town, the capital of the province of the same name in Tuscany. The city is located in the characteristic Tuscan area known as the Piana di Lucca. Lucca is famous throughout Italy for its inestimable historical and cultural heritage, and is one of the very few Italian capitals to preserve the historic center completely surrounded by sixteenth-century walls, overall intact and almost unchanged over the centuries. It is considered a notable city of art in Italy for its inestimable artistic and cultural heritage. According to some, it was born as a Ligurian settlement; others believe instead that it is of Etruscan origin, and developed as a Roman colony starting from 180 BC. C. The urban layout of the city, however, has a clearly Roman setting. Since the walls no longer play a military role, they have become an important pedestrian area perfect for taking long and pleasant walks. Not to be missed in Lucca: Piazza di San Michele with its beautiful Church of San Michele in Foro, the Basilica of San Frediano, the Clock Tower and the Guinigi Tower, to name just a few.
