Among the valleys of Sospirolo

Where: sospirolo
(Sospirolo e dintorni)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food

Sospirolo is located within the Belluno Dolomites National Park, at the foot of the Monti del Sole, between Belluno and Feltre, and has a rich natural, artistic, historical and cultural heritage. Our tour begins with shots that show us the wonders of the surrounding valleys Sospirolo, which is dominated by the top of Monte Spirone. The town has a very ancient history and has been inhabited since prehistoric times; then there are the remains of an ancient Roman-Lombard settlement documented by the discovery of an epigraph and grave goods. Among the most precious buildings is the Certosa di Vedano which welcomed travelers who passed along the dense natural paths. The building represents the most important place of historical and cultural interest for Sospirolo. Going down towards the Cordevole river we can admire its crystalline waters, the hilly landscape and finally the Vedano Lake, a real treasure trove of biodiversity. The church dedicated to Santo Stefano preserves a small artistic treasure inside. Just beyond the historic center we admire an example of a Venetian Heritage residence, Villa San Bizzassu, dating back to the nineteenth century. From the food and wine point of view, traditional foods include both fresh and seasoned dairy products. One of the traditional cheeses is Casel for which the request for the DOP mark is underway. Among the most famous natural places is the Valle del Mis, awarded with the 5 Vele Legambiente Italian touring club.
