The Pescara circuit and the Palio delle Pupe: two reasons to visit Cappelle sul Tavo

Cappelle sul Tavo is a small town in Pescara famous for the historic Palio delle Pupe, a competition between districts that has been held every year in August since 1976 with parades, floats and various events also linked to the gastronomy of the area. The town is located in the immediate outskirts of Pescara and its economy is mainly agricultural. Chapels are mentioned in D'annunzio's 'Triumph of death', referring to a preacher friar who apparently had thaumaturgical powers and was nicknamed 'the Messiah of Abbruzzo'. The place was the birthplace of the author Ennio Flaiano, whose birthplace it is possible to visit and nearby an exhibition that traces the life of the town through ancient photos. Cappelle was also a transit area of the famous 'Pescara circuit', the first edition of which was won by Enzo Ferrari. Circuit on which several races have been run, including Formula 1. The importance of the circuit is also remembered by a stone monument a 1924 Alfa Romeo RL Targa Florio, located between Spoltore and Cappelle, which represents the Coppa Acerbo, a competition of place held for about twenty years. The Abruzzo Cooperative Credit Bank based in Cappelle is not just a credit institution but represented a bet to revive the fortunes of the town. Religious reference point is the Church of the Beata Vergine Lauretana, the only church.
