(Cortino)
Genre: culture   nature

Cortino is an Italian town in the province of Teramo, made up of twenty hamlets, in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park; it extends over a hillock. The territory is very vast, much of it is green, preserved with the nature that inhabits it. Some hamlets were once completely uninhabited, but now there has been a return, people who are investing in the area and building. The name Cortino derives from the word Corte. Ideal for all tastes: Cortino is located in the middle, 30 minutes from the sea and 10 from the mountains, with splendid views. Here we find woods of the now very rare silver fir and if lucky you can spot the Marsicano Bear. The area has very ancient origins, from the Neolithic hunters who procured food in the mountains, to the Roman people who built temples here. In the hamlet of Pagliaroli we find the church of San Salvatore which in ancient times was a temple dedicated to a goddess, some artifacts have been found including a mosaic. Servillo is the hamlet that most preserves the characteristics of the past, the walls and architecture, bringing to light decorations and coats of arms dating back to the sixteenth century. The typical local products are: tarallucci, wild boar salami and cheese.
