The wonders of Orosei

Where: orosei
(Orosei)
Genre: culture   nature

Orosei is a town in the province of Nuoro, which has just over 7000 inhabitants. The town is located a couple of kilometers from the sea, nestled in the splendid coast of the Gulf of Orosei which offers more than 40km of beaches, coves, bays and spectacular cliffs, such as to be considered one of the most beautiful natural heritage in the Mediterranean. The beauty of the place, however, lies not only in the uncontaminated nature of the beaches of the Gulf, but also in the town itself, which offers a taste of its history through its medieval historic center. Among the buildings we find the Medieval Castle called Prejone Vetza, to indicate its role as a prison assumed in the following years and originally built to defend the ancient port. We can still distinguish the presence of characteristic streets in the district that is defined as Palathos Vetzos which means old palaces, also in this case the term indicates the presence of old noble palaces in the same district, whose state is still good. Characteristic is the Guiso Museum, a museum of miniature theaters. There are also religious buildings, first of all the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Rimedio, the church of San Giacomo Apostolo, and the church of Santa Maria 'e Mare.
