(Villasimius)
Genre: nature   useful information

Villasimius is a Sardinian town in the south-east of the island, a very famous tourist resort on the Costa Rei. Very popular also for its geographical position, it is located about an hour from Cagliari airport and a few kilometers from the port of the same city. Characteristic are the beaches of white and fine sand and the transparent waters, which are the main tourist attraction, the main source of income of the town. The municipality can count on about 30 km of coastline in an alternation of beaches, coves and promontories. The sea appears not only enchanting but a bit wild, thanks to the rich vegetation that surrounds it. Granite, a mineral that was once a source of income, offers a suggestive panorama around the beaches, an example being the beach of Cava Usai. A nature trail leads to the cove of Porto Giunco, with a shallow seabed and protected from the winds thanks to the promontories. Behind the beach we find the Notteri pond, habitat of pink flamingos and other birds. Equipped Lido is the Simius one, after which there is another jewel of these areas: Punta Molentis, a fascinating arch-shaped inlet. On the promontory that runs along the beach you can admire the remains of a nuraghe, as well as an amazing panorama. Among the other noteworthy beaches we mention: the rice beach and the Proceddus beach. Do not forget the archaeological sites such as the necropolis of Cruccuris and the various nuraghe, or the thermal building of Santa Maria, from the Roman era.
