Maldives? No, Friuli! The fishermen's path leads to a dream beach on the Friulian coast

(Spiaggia di Canovella de'Zoppoli)
Genre: nature   useful information

The Canovella de'Zoppoli beach is located on the Friulian coast and is called 'the Maldives of the North-East' for its crystal clear water. The territory of the beach unfolds in the municipality of Duino-Aurusina, precisely in the Aurusina Cave area. To reach it you have to follow the 'Fishermen's Path' which starts from Aurusina and is the road used by Karst fishermen to reach the sea, just the port of canovella. It is not an easy path, a bit bumpy and with a long flight of steps, even if only a couple of kilometers long, but once you get to the beach you realize that it is really worth it. It is closely connected to the flatter Salvia path, which offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Trieste. The name of the beach is composed of Canovella, which is a toponym, and zoppoli, which is the name of the boats used by these fishermen. It is a pebble beach, mostly flat and rounded, with a wild look but very quiet. It can only be reached on foot and given the path, it is not extremely crowded. A great choice for those who want a swim in calm waters, away from the crowds.
