Sulbiate: a very dynamic town in Brianza, with many historical riches

Where: sulbiate
(Sulbiate)
Genre: culture   useful information

Sulbiate is a town in the Brianza area not far from the city of Milan. It is a Roman town that still retains some evidence of the time. For example, Casa da Nobile, a stately home where the remains of some frescoes, the columns of the loggia and the portico are still visible. Another place of interest is the Lampugnani Cremonesi castle dating back to the 15th century and built by a rich Milanese merchant. The building has undergone various occupations over the centuries, many families have lived there up to the family of Giulio Cesare Cremonesi who has owned it since 1905. The building still has the drawbridge visible and is very impressive also for the red brick of the exterior. It overlooks a beautiful garden and some ancient frescoes are still visible. Another valuable historical building is the ancient spinning mill, once a silk factory, now re-evaluated for young companies. Not far away is Palazzo Baraggia, another historic place, where the agricultural community of the municipality once ran. Inside are still preserved ancient machinery such as the mill. Among the places of worship we remember the church of San Pietro and that of Sant'Antonino Martire, but the flagship of the municipality, even from an artistic point of view is the church of Sant'Ambrogio.
