The deepest pool in the world in Montegrotto Terme

In Montegrotto Terme there is a truly unique swimming pool. The first peculiarity of Y-40 is its depth: 40 meters, which makes it the deepest pool in the world. Inside there are 3 million and 300 thousand liters of water, which is the capacity of two and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools. Inside it could comfortably fit a 13-story building. Another non-negligible peculiarity is that the water with which the pool is filled is thermal, therefore hot, so those who dive can do it in a bathing suit, without wearing a wetsuit. Y-40 was inaugurated in 2014 in the presence of two great diving champions, Enzo Maiorca and Umberto Pellizzari. The project is by architect Emanuele Boaretto, and the structure also includes an underwater tunnel that is 5 meters deep. Not just sportsmen who use the Y-40 for diving, but scientific researchers as well. In addition, shows also take place in the pool, such as the show of a 'mermaid' who performs in front of visitors.
