Monghidoro and its ancient butchery tradition celebrated with the Pig Festival

Where: monghidoro
(Monghidoro)
Genre: events    wine and food

At one time, all the peasant villages found the maximum moment of aggregation in the killing of the pig. It was not only those who owned the pig who rejoiced, but the whole community, in a moment of sharing. Every year in Monghidoro they try to revive this ancient tradition with the Pig Festival, which also tries to celebrate the art of pork butchery that has been practiced for a long time in this municipality. There are food stands where you can taste and buy not only typical cured meats, but also cheeses and crescentine and tigelle. There are the butchers of the village who participate by preparing the cup from early in the morning, which must be cooked for at least 5 hours and is then ready in the afternoon. The cup is then cleaned and distributed on saucers with salt and pepper, so that everyone can taste it for free. The festival also includes other moments of leisure, with dances and music and even artists who practice street theater. Everything is carried out strictly with local products and with the meat of the pigs deriving from the area's breeding.
