Dolceacqua is a town of about 2000 inhabitants in the province of Imperia, in Liguria. It is a medieval village in the Val Nervia, its first archaeological finds date back to the Iron Age, such as the rough stone fortifications. It is said that, in the twelfth century, the Counts of Ventimiglia had the first foundations of the Dolceacqua Castle built, of which today there are few remains that are the symbol of the whole village, the events related to this castle, in fact, conditioned the history of Dolceacqua. The destruction of the castle is due to several past enemy attacks and a devastating earthquake in 1887. The town surrounds the Nervia river and gives beauty to the landscape, so much so that it inspired Monet in one of his works in the nineteenth century. Walking through the alleys of the small village, it is possible to visit various workshops of artists and artisans and learn about the typical gastronomic products: among these some table wines such as the 'Rossese di Dolceacqua', relevant in the economy of the village thanks to the excellent cultivation of the vine. .
