The Island of Pantelleria is one of the smaller islands of Sicily: smaller in size (84 square kilometers) but not for its characteristics which attract tourists from all over the world. The island, although it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, draws its main sustenance from the land. There are two main typical products of the area: grapes, from which the famous passito wine is obtained, and capers. One of the main dishes of the island is the salad, which is made with capers, of course, but also with potatoes, tomatoes, Pantelleria onions and of course olive oil, which is also strictly produced in Pantelleria. This salad can easily take on the role of a single dish. There are many things to see on the island: the dammusi, the typical houses now renovated to become prestigious residences, and the Scauri castle. Inside the latter there are three statues found in the excavations of 2003, dating back to the first century AD and depicting the emperor Titus, Julius Caesar and Agrippina.
