Good road!

Where: romano-di-lombardia
(Romano di Lombardia.)
Genre: culture

The town is located 20 km east of Bergamo and is rich in artistic treasures. The visit starts from the Visconti fortress which, built starting from the 12th century, underwent extensions and renovations until the 18th. The structure has a rectangular plan with three towers and was originally equipped with a drawbridge, replaced with a portal, and the moat, visible and drained. Inside, you walk through narrow streets paved with pebbles up to the great court and the Venetian one, where you can still see the coats of arms of the Serenissima frescoed on the walls. Returning to the historic center, you can stroll under the arcades that frame colorful and elegant houses and buildings. Among these stands Palazzo Rubini, home of the homonymous tenor Gian Battista, built in 1854 on a project by the architect Pagnoncelli. In neoclassical style, inside there is a luxurious garden with statues, stucco decorations and a porch. In the heart of the city, the Palazzo della Ragione was the seat of the rebels against the fiefdom, the arengo, the Court and the Magistrates' Court and is recognized as the Community Palace. Happily arrived in Piazza Madre you can admire the façade, decorated in stucco by Comerio, and the bell towers of the Basilica of San Defendente, of the sixteenth century, anomalous in terms of structure since it brings together three buildings: the parish church, the church of Santa Maria and the Church of St. Louis.
