Catanzaro to discover

Where: catanzaro
(Catanzaro)
Genre: culture   nature

Catanzaro is the capital of the Calabria region; it rises 320 meters above sea level and has 86,000 inhabitants. In the 1960s, what is the symbol of the city was inaugurated: a record-breaking viaduct with a single large arch of 231 meters in width. Through the bridge you reach the historic center of the city, concentrated on three hills. In 2008 the interesting museum of the arts opened its doors, in which rooms are exhibited works that harmoniously combine the past and the present, both historical and contemporary; masterpieces of the last 5 centuries are preserved. A tribute to the local artist Mimmo Rotella, born in 1918 and considered one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century, also internationally, is unmissable. His figure is linked to the Noveau Realisme and Pop Art. The park of Mediterranean biodiversity is of considerable interest, in this modern lung of the city there are animals and plants, but also valuable artistic installations, especially contemporary sculptural works. Art and nature blend wonderfully. The cultural weight of Catanzaro has distant roots. Rebuilt after the bombings of the Second World War, the cathedral is the latest heir to the places of worship that have stood out over the city since the Middle Ages. Not far from the historic center, the undulating mass of the Politeama Theater stands out, another beating heart of the city's cultural promotion. At the narrowest point of the region, Catanzaro is separated by about thirty kilometers from both Calabrian coasts.
