The Bourbon Castle.

Where: termini-imerese
(Termini Imerese.)
Genre: culture

On the ruins of an Arab fortress, the Bourbons built the Castle and the walls that reached the sea from the promontory. During the three months of siege of the city, Charles of Anjou was unable to conquer it. Only in 1860, when Garibaldi broke into the island with a thousand alliances with the local picciotti, the Bourbon flag that still stood on the castle was dethroned and destroyed. From that moment most of the bricks that made up the ancient structure were reused to build the homes of the citizens of Termini. Some parts of the walls are still visible, where finds of the ancient Roman Termini and in particular of the Curia have been found nearby. In spatial order, where the new buildings now stand, it is ideally the Terra Vecchia where the castle was divided into annexes. From the terrace with the cistern you can admire the view of the Gulf and of Monte San Calogero, where the Carthaginians took refuge after having suffered, in 480 BC. C. the defeat of Himera by King Gelone allied with the Greeks.
